Abide

This word has been coming up for me a lot lately. Abide; meaning live or dwell. Remain. If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:31-32(ESV)

I picture pumpkins on a vine. Away from the vine they will die. Just as if we do not abide in Jesus we will die. Die in our sin.

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without me you can do nothing. John 15:5(NKJV)

Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. John 1:9

Clearly God is calling us and advising us the importance of remaining in His word.

If you keep my commandments you will abide in my love; just as I have kept my Fathers commandments and abide in His love. John 15:10

Keeping Gods commandments keeps us close to him. He shines his favor upon us. It is pleasing to Him.

There are many more scriptures where God is calling us to abide in Him, and the greatness of this life when we do abide in Him.

I hope bringing light to the word "abide" encourages you today.
